Reliable, Dependable, Trusted since 1940...

Mr. William H. CarperIn 1939, the formation of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad was conceived by Mr. William H. Carper.  On February 5, 1940, Mr. Carper was honored as the first Captain elected to the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad & the rest is history...

Original FRS members

Back in 1940, when 22 fledgling Fredericksburg Rescue Squad members had to purchase their own first-aid kits, squad transportation was afforded by a donated "1933 Dodge 1-ton panel truck" from Sunshine Laundry and they were without a building, it seemed as if their venture was predestined to fail.

Then along came the local Kiwanis Club who generously donated various pieces of equipment.  The Kiwanis donation was soon followed by a $300 donation from the Fredericksburg City Council.  Strong public support was received from the conception of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad and remains today.  As always, we continue to welcome your tax-deductible contributions.

First Unit: 1933 Dodge 1-Ton Panel Truck donated by Sunshine LaundryAs one of the earlier volunteer rescue squads in the state,  Fredericksburg Rescue originally ran squad calls from Washington, DC to Richmond, VA and from the waters of Virginia's Northern Neck to the mountains of the Shenandoah Valley.

Fredericksburg Rescue Squad's distinguished history includes assisting other squads throughout the Commonwealth during their formative years.  Such squads include Spotsylvania, Orange, Ladysmith, Virginia Beach Rescue Squads and more.

Early trainingFor 70 years,  the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad continues to remain an indispensable, time-honored member of our community.  Our volunteer members have defined our history & our character. The obligations placed upon them are legendary and without question, have contributed to our status and reputation making us one of the finest, senior rescue squads in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Our tradition continues today with a diverse membership of high school students to college students; construction workers to business owners; stay-at-home parents to retirees; law enforcement officers to firefighters and nurses; mechanics to engineers; government employees to public administrators; military personnel to educators; and the many others who unselfishly dedicate their time and services to the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad.

The Fredericksburg Rescue Squad's legacy  is a reflection of the community we serve and a tribute to our continued...
