Nathan Norman is a 5-year-old young boy diagnosed with cancer three years ago.

For Christmas this year, Nathan told his parents that he wanted to receive Christmas cards from cops, firefighters and EMT's. His wish quickly went viral and holiday cards started to arrive from all over.

To top off all the Christmas spirit, a Christmas Polar Bear Poker Run was organized. The Fredericksburg Rescue squad was honored to participate. Here is one of our members accounts of the event:

On January 12, 2013, I took Response 23 to Martinsville, VA. This was the start of the Nathan Norman Christmas Polar Bear Poker Run and where I met with some members of the Warrior Brotherhood Veterans Motorcycle Club, and about 60 bikers, which included two City of Martinsville Police Officers. From there, we paraded down the highway ending at Nathan's front door. Along the way, the Warrior Brotherhood Veterans Motorcycle Club, who was hosting the event, raised about $1200.00 for the Norman family. Little Nathan seemed really surprised and his family seemed excited to see everyone that had participated. He seemed to be doing well, and continuing to fight on. There was a lot that I took from this experience and there was a lot that could be learned from the strength of his parents and siblings.

I wish that more of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad could have attended, but I am extremely happy that I was able to participate.

Attached is a picture I got with the Norman family and the Response. Unfortunately, the youngest was taking a nap and was unable to be in the photo. Nathan is the one in the Angry Birds pants.

Thanks,
Katherine Haller

The Fredericksburg Rescue Squad sends its best wishes to Nathan and his family. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to participate and support you throughout your fight against cancer.
