Pre-Hospital Patient Care Protocol
www.rems.vaems.org/index.php
The above linked document has been approved by the Rappahannock Emergency Medical Services Council (REMSC) Training and Guidelines Committee and will serve as the Pre-Hospital Patient Care Protocol in the REMSC region.
This protocol represents the end result of a great deal of work, carried out and reviewed by a number of pre-hospital providers and physicians. This protocol has been formulated to meet the specific, and sometimes unique, needs of the various REMSC regions, and to serve as a guideline to a standardized approach to patient care in the field.
This manual should be studied and reviewed periodically by all levels of providers, as they contain both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) treatment guidelines. By continually reviewing this document, pre-hospital providers will be better prepared to deliver appropriate and effective assistance during medical and traumatic emergencies.
A complete Pre-Hospital Patient Care Protocol consists of all sections including Administrative, Clinical Procedure, Medical, Trauma, Behavioral, Environmental, Pediatrics, Communications, and a Medication reference. A copy of this document should be kept at the emergency department (ED), each EMS agency and in every ambulance unit in the REMSC region. The document consisting of all sections is also printed in a reduced format for easier handling. An initial copy will be provided to each BLS and ALS provider. Additional copies may be available at www.rems.vaems.org.
This protocol is dated by month and year. It will be reviewed as needed by the REMSC Training and Guidelines Committee and Protocol Sub-Committee. When approved, changes will be made and revised pages will be issued to Operational Medical Directors, the ED medical staff (Medical Director), and to the individual agencies that will then be responsible for any necessary in-service training.
Suggestions for additions and/or revisions should be submitted, in writing, to the Rappahannock EMS Council, 435 Hunter Street, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401. The Training and Guidelines Committee and the Regional Medical Director will review all submissions.
