Today's Youth, Tomorrow's Leaders..."

"By Beginning Early,
Our Youth Can Learn The Rewarding
Life of Volunteering & Service to Others..."
The need for well-trained and highly-motivated volunteer EMS personnel throughout America’s communities has never been greater. Over 70% of the fire and rescue personnel who protect our nation are volunteers. Yet, statistics show that while fire and rescue department call volumes continue to increase, the number of volunteers continue to decrease. The causes for the downward trend in volunteers are varied, including more rigorous training standards, increased time demands on two-income families for the adult providers and limited advocacy for volunteering among our youth. Retention and recruitment of new members has never been more challenging. In response to the challenge of recruiting volunteers, many agencies have initiated programs to encourage the involvement of youth through Junior Programs.
As such, the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad has two programs established for Junior Members:
· Junior Program: 16-17 year olds
· Junior Cadet Program: 14-15 year olds
Our Juniors, ages 16-17, work as a team with FRS duty crew members by responding to emergency calls and providing medical services to those in need. They also assist with stand-by requests. These Juniors are willing to volunteer their time to help others, attend training classes and become certified in CPR and as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This program allows them to explore volunteer and career opportunities in the field of EMS, first-hand. Click here to read our: Junior SOGs
Junior Cadets, ages 14-15, attend training including CPR certification, assist with stand-bys and explore volunteer & career opportunities in the field of EMS. This program was established to offer 14-15 year old students, normally not eligible for squad membership due to their age, the opportunity to join our organization as a Junior Cadet. Due to liability restrictions, they are not permitted to ride our apparatus until the age of 16. Click here for detailed information on our: Junior Cadet Program
These programs provide our youth with positive opportunities to volunteer; participate in community service; enforces teamwork; promotes leadership development and so much more!
Not wanting to impact their scholastic achievements, our Juniors and Junior Cadets are required to maintain a "C" average in school and are not permitted to be at the station after 10:00 pm on school nights.
"The mission of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad is to cultivate a spirit of leadership and service in the young men and women of the community we proudly serve. This is accomplished by providing exposure to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) through our Junior Programs to medical, technical and rescue training alongside the public safety professionals of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad."
We hope you'll share our passion for this remarkable organization and its members with your family and friends!
If you or someone you know is 16-17 years of age, we welcome you to join us as a Junior Member. Or, if you or someone else is 14-15 years old, we invite you to join our squad as a Junior Cadet. "Become A Member" today!
