Established in 1940, the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad is a non-profit organization supported by the city government, the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and through generous donations from local citizens, businesses and groups like you. We continue to welcome your tax-deductible contributions today. Fredericksburg Rescue is a member of the Rappahannock Emergency Medical Services Council, Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads and the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.

From our squad's modest beginnings in 1940, when one vehicle and a handful of volunteers ran calls to the present, Fredericksburg Rescue continues to be an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving lives and serving our community!

Our dedicated volunteers are of all ages, come from all walks of life and possess various levels of training ranging from drivers to EMTs and Paramedics. Many are certified in firefighting, hazardous materials operations, search & rescue, heavy rescue operations and scuba diving, just to name a few. But don't be intimidated, no experience is necessary; we offer free training to all of our members!

A family-oriented squad, we are embedded in our community and dedicated to serving it. "Because We Care" our community dedication also includes sponsoring Blood Drives, Food Drives, Clothes Drives and more. Annually, we sponsor a Holiday Angel Tree and participate in St. Baldrick's Day. We've partnered with James Monroe High School, Bragg Hill Family Life Center and sponsor local Girl Scout Troop #737. We've also joined the "Adopt-A-Roadway" project by adopting a portion of William Street and we routinely send Military Care Packages to our squad family & friends serving our country overseas.
"Rescue Sam""Rescue Sam," our awarding-winning collegiate-like mascot, serves as our "Educational Ambassador" by reaching out to local children and teaching them the essentials of safety, injury prevention, how to call 911 and the overall vital services of EMS. In addition to other appearances, "Rescue Sam" makes routine visits to Mary Washington Hospital's Pediatric Unit and Emergency Room providing comfort and support to children in their time of need.

Driven by a higher standard, we've gone "Beyond the Call" for over 70 years! Today, our first due area is 11-square miles with a population of approximately 20,500 people. Our volunteer services are offset by two Fredericksburg Fire Department career medic units from 5:30 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We also provide back-up response to neighboring counties, as needed.

Fredericksburg is conveniently located half-way between the two Civil War capitols of Washington, D. C., our nation's capitol and Richmond, Virginia, our state's capitol. Founded in 1728 and Incorporated in 1781, Fredericksburg is an independent city of the U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia.

Fredericksburg has the unique ability to maintain respect for tradition while embracing change. The dedicated members of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad welcome the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors and our community. Give back to your community by becoming a member of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad today! Again, no experience is necessary; we offer free training to all of our members!

Thanks for stopping by, we hope you enjoyed your visit.
